 On February 2, 2023, ICSA President and Head Coach of Old Dominion University Mitch Brindley was named recipient of the Nathanael G. Herreshoff Trophy. The Herreshoff Trophy is US Sailing’s most prestigious award. After being donated by the National Marine Manufactuer’s Association in 1957, this award is given out annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the sport of sailing in the United States in any associated activity.  

10 college sailing teams from across the country arrived Friday to San Diego Yacht Club for the 2022 College Sailing Match Race National Championship. Jack Egan ‘25, Nicholas Davies ‘24, Megan Grimes ‘24 and Christophe Chaumont ‘23 of Yale University took home the title for the Bulldogs for the second year in a row! 

NORFOLK, VA (November 7, 2022) - 18 ILCA 7 and 19 ILCA 6 collegiate sailors arrived at Old Dominion University for the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships for the Janet Lutz and Glen S Foster Trophies. Sophia Montgomery ‘25 of Harvard University took home the Janet Lutz Trophy and Chapman Petersen ‘26 of Stanford University took home the Glen S. Foster Trophy.

On Saturday, racing started at 10 a.m. with winds around 5-8 knots from the Southeast. Throughout the day the breeze steadily built to 14-16 from the East Southeast. In the ILCA 6 Fleet, Sophia Montgomery ‘25 of Harvard University ended the day in the lead with 42 points. Hallie Schiffman ‘23 of Stanford University was in second with 44 points. Christine Reimer ‘24 of Bowdoin College finished off day one with 56 points.

The selections have been made for the College Sailing Fall National Championships. The Open and Women’s Singlehanded National Championships will be held in Norfolk, Virginia on November 5-6, 2022. The College Sailing Open Match Race National Championship will be held in San Diego, California on November 12-13, 2022.

After an extensive interview process, the ICSA has announced the organization's new Executive Director, Reed Maltbie. Serving as the ICSA's first Executive Director, Reed will oversee the day-to-day operations of College Sailing and serve the board of directors, conferences and teams that compete throughout North America.

Following the conclusion of the 2022 College Sailing National Championships, the ICSA has announced the 2022 All-America Team, Open and Women’s Sailor of the Year, Sportsman of the Year, Inductees to the ICSA Hall of Fame and the winner of the Leonard Fowle Trophy.

Leonard Fowle Trophy for the Best Overall Team: Yale University

After four days of racing on Lake Pontchartrain with tricky conditions and thunderstorms threatening a shortened Championship, Boston College came away victorious for the College Sailing Women’s National Fleet Racing Championship.

The College Sailing Women’s National Championship hosted at Tulane University was well underway on May 25-26 following the Semi-Final round that happened on the two days prior. 18 teams from across the country were competing for the prestigious Gerald C. Miller Memorial Trophy. 

After two days of racing on Lake Pontchartrain, the top nine schools from the two semifinal fleets of 18 are advancing to Women's Finals May 25-26. Harvard University took the win in the Western semifinal, and Yale University took the win in the Eastern semifinal.

After four days of racing on Lake Pontchartrain with tricky conditions and thunderstorms threatening a shortened Championship, Tulane University came away victorious on their home waters with their first Fleet Racing National Champion title in 49 years and their second in program history.

Top 9 Schools From Eastern & Western Semifinals Advance to ICSA Open National Championship Finals

For the first time since Newport Nationals in 2019, College Sailing Open Fleet Race Semi-Finals were held in New Orleans, LA hosted by Tulane University with support from Southern Yacht Club. 36 teams from across the country traveled to the Big Easy to compete for a coveted spot in the College Sailing National Championship for the Henry A. Morss Trophy.

“There is not much to say. It was great to see 36 great college sailing teams competing at one venue. I really enjoyed seeing some friends I haven’t seen since Newport in 2019,” ICSA President Mitch Brindley said about the return of College Sailing National Semi-Finals.

The format for semi-finals is as follows. 36 teams were selected by an independent selection committee based on teams fleet racing performance throughout the year. Each team was then seeded and divided evenly into Eastern and Western semi-finals. The top 9 from each field would advance to the finals. The Eastern Semi-Final group started in 420s while the Western Semi-Final Group started in FJs.
